scale - an accretion
something about the lure of horizons, and a great void made by the first silver coin, collapsing inwards on a distant shore. the value of one fish, and the incommensurability of two. a load of aluminium, bound for ammunition, sunken, softly, into the sea floor. colonial shipping routes, and the need to name and measure the whole world. fixatives and fluids, origins and endings. a man lost at sea. the same problem, spoken differently at all points. that which holds things together. that which holds things apart. the original split glimpsed beneath the waves, all the while trying to catch and hold a single thing still
